What Will You Learn?

If you’re unfamiliar with chess, watching a game in progress can be intimidating. You might feel you could never learn all the moves and strategies. But the truth is that, while difficult to master, chess is quite easy to learn. Master Chess Teacher Gary Ryan has been teaching chess to students of all ages for over 20 years, and today he brings the lessons he has imparted to so many others directly to you in this great instructional video.

The trick to learning chess is knowing the fundamentals, and in The Chess Board and Pieces: The Fundamentals of Chess, that’s exactly what you will learn. Gary takes a slow, methodical approach to each basic idea in chess to make learning easy and fun. From showing you the way the board is arranged and the pieces are set up to teaching you to understand basic tactics, this video will provide you with everything you need to get started playing chess and winning!

In Part 1 of The Chess Board and Pieces: The Fundamentals of Chess, Gary starts by introducing you to the most fundamental piece of chess equipment of all: The board. He shows you how the board is configured, including how to identify the pathways of ranks, files and diagonals that the pieces travel along. You’ll then learn exactly where each piece is placed for the opening setup of the chess game, with useful rules such as “Queen gets her own color” to help remind you just where everything goes.

Once you know how to set up the game, you’ll need to know how the pieces move and capture, and Gary reviews this for you carefully and clearly, with simple instructive examples so you can understand the basic ideas right away. After you learn how the pieces move and capture, as well as how to defend your pieces, Gary walks you through the three special moves in chess, castling, promotion, and en passant. These are tricky rules, but Gary’s practiced style honed through years of teaching all types of students makes them easy to learn.

Once you know how all the pieces move, you’re ready to play! But how do you win? That’s what Part 2 of this video covers. A chess game is won when one player achieves checkmate. Gary explains check and checkmate in detail, as well as other different ways a chess game can end, including stalemates and other types of draws.

After teaching you these fundamentals, Gary takes you through the basic tactics you’ll need to know to defeat your opponents, including the fork, pin, and skewer, as well as slightly more advanced tactics like decoy and deflection. Finally, Gary concludes by walking you through the three different parts of a chess game, as well as some instructive problem solving practices and examples.

If you’ve always wanted to learn chess but have been putting it off because you were afraid it is too complicated or you are too old to learn, now is the time! Anyone can learn chess with Gary Ryan’s The Chess Board and Pieces, and it’s a great way to introduce your kids to chess as well! Order now!
